For the average student, a daily commute to school would usually consist of a short walk, a car ride, or a quick trip on public transport. But for students living in geographically remote areas, such as those attending Marufinas Integrated School in Puerto Princesa, getting to school looks a bit more different. Their journey involves walking along long stretches of shoreline, crossing rivers with water reaching up to chest-deep high, and trekking through mountainous terrain just to gain access to education.
On 16 September 2026, Russco and his team spent a full school day with a kindergarten class at Marufinas IS as a stand-in kindergarten teacher. His experience began with an early morning trek to school alongside the students, followed by participating in and facilitating classroom activities.
The day concluded with the distribution of school kits to all 17 kindergarten students, each containing a waterproof backpack, raincoat, umbrella, school supplies, water bottle, lunchbox, and toiletries. Additional books and learning materials were also donated to support the classroom’s educational needs.
This meaningful journey marks Russco University Organization’s first project. Though modest in scale, the initiative brought meaningful support to the students and much-needed resources to their classroom.
This is only the beginning for Russco University as we continue to build partnerships, mobilize resources, and raise funds for larger initiatives that create lasting, positive change in underserved communities. Stay tuned for more!
